Important Update about Flooding

Report from school at 13h00 on Monday 24th October
School will open as normal on Tuesday 25th October
Update

The safety of the community is always a first priority.

This morning we have conducted a thorough audit of the school’s operation and site and have decided that the school can operate as normal under the prevailing conditions.

Travel To and From School

a) The school shuttle boat will be operating with an additional level of safety introduced. Members of the Senior Management Team will travel on the boat during peak periods to ensure safe practice. Life jackets will be available. The boats will not run at full capacity and so families who normally travel by boat should leave extra time for the journey. If the river conditions deteriorate from the current flow patterns, the school reserves the right to stop travel to and from school by boat and so all families should have an alternative plan for the leg of the journey between school and Sathorn Pier.

b)The journey to school by car is likely to be slower than normal as the entrance / departure from school will inevitably be slowed by the flood defences. The Drop-Off at the Flagpole will certainly be slower than normal as there will be only one lane available to traffic.

c)The Montri Bus service will operate as normal.

Current State of Play
a) The school and surrounding routes are fully accessible today.

b)All key services (security, cleaning, catering etc) are functioning normally. It is possible that our lunch menus may be reduced in range dependent upon availability of fresh produce.

c) ICT, networks and logistics are functioning normally.

Next Steps
a)School Leaders, Class Teachers and Form Tutors will be available for information / advice at the start of the school day.

b)Parents / Responsible Adults are requested to support staff in ensuring that students do not play on or around sandbags and in the zone adjacent to the river.

c)A full programme of extra curricular activities including “You-Time!”, Sports, Music & Drama Excellence, Library Services and Supervision will operate as normal. Most sports fixtures against other schools have been cancelled. Please consult the Activities Office for further details.

d)If you are directly affected by the floods in a way which prevents school attendance, please report to Reception by telephone specifically stating “Flooding” as the reason for absence as we will be tracking our attendance data carefully.

For information
a)Please be aware that the situation remains very changeable. We will be watching developments very closely for any potential impact upon the school day.

b) It is possible that school decisions will have to be made at short notice and Shrewsbury families are advised to maintain mobile phone access and internet connectivity during this period. The school will be using the emergency SMS service as a first line of communication. Please check regularly the website / Studywiz for further updates and information.

c)The next scheduled web / Studywiz update will be uploaded at 13h30 on Tuesday 25th October .

Thank you.
