LITERACY
Progress:
This term Melody has enjoyed writing stories with familiar settings, poems, instructions and traditional stories. Her writing is becoming detailed and she usually varies her choice of connectives and sentence openers to interest the reader. She is also beginning to choose interesting adjectives for effect. Her reading is fluent and expressive. She uses the text to find answers to questions confidently and is begging to make deductions using clues in the text.
Targets:
1. Use ambitious verbs and adjectives to add detail to my writing
2. Include a character's viewpoint in a story (what he feels and thinks)
3. Comment on how characters relate to each other and give reasons for my opinion

NUMERACY
Progress:
Melody has been learning to develop mental and written methods in Maths, moving away from using practical apparatus where possible. She always listens carefully and has a try, even when she is not completely confident with a new method. She confidently partitions larger number into tens and units before adding, taking away or doubling and has learned to draw her own number lines. She uses a variety of methods to solve problems, including those with 2 steps, and derives new facts from known numbers facts.
Targets:
1. Find a quarter of a number by halving and halving again
2. Tell the time to quarter past and to the hour in analogue and digital
