當時越戰正如火如荼進行中。
1969年時，約翰藍儂的妻子小野洋子在世界各地買下11個大看板，
寫上
[WAR IS OVER, "if you want"!
Happy Christmas from John and Yoko]
兩年後，約翰藍儂和小野洋子一起製作了這首歌。
前幾句是約翰藍儂唱的，
歌曲後部分是小野洋子和紐約哈林區唱詩班的大合唱，非常有意義。
我每次聽到第二句都很震撼。
"so this is christmas, and WHAT HAVE YOU DONE?"
