Competition Jump Charts
What technical content will be incorporated into the short and long free skating programs?
Coaches and skaters attempt to maximize the base content value of the required program elements.
The goal is to set the choreography of the program early in the training season and assume that the skater will be achieve to develop the desired skills to become proficient to the extent the all of the elements can be consistency be performed without major errors.
The problem with the strategy is that increasing the difficulty can produce lower GOEs and Program Component marks causing the total score for a element to be much lower than if a more conservative approach is used.
Increasing the element difficulty also increases the risk of falling or otherwise recieving a GOE of -1 or lower.
Each jump has a base value to which a GOE value is added to or subtracted from. In some cases the GOE value is actually higher than the base value.
Skaters and coaches must consider the risk of failing to complete and/or fall when planing to perform a jump at a high GOE (that you do not perform well) rather than trying one with a high base value that you do perform well.
