Figurative Writing

Back To School

An Adventurous Back to School Trip

After a long dreary summer, my school was finally started in mid August. On my first day of school, I was told to wait at the doorway of my house at seven o'clock as usual. However, it's been ten minutes past seven but the bus was still out of my sight. I was murmuring to myself uneasily, “Did I remember the wrong first day of school? Or the bus is just late? If today is really the first day, I don't want to be late either!” At that moment, I heard my heart thumping as loud as elephant stomping. After about another ten minutes tedious wait, the bus finally arrived and I sighed with relief. In a hurry, I dashed up the bus and I noticed the bus driver was replaced. He was a short bald old gentleman with gray hair and beard. Then, the students on the bus yelled that this was a new driver and he was still trying to get familiar with the route, even with a GPS. So, this was why the bus appeared late on the first day.

I picked an empty spot by the window to sit as before. I enjoyed sitting next to the window because I liked to feel the breeze in the air and to spot what was happening outside. As I was admiring the pleasant street view, there was a very screechy sound coming from this bus' wheel. That sound was going over and over again as if there was something that kept on hitting each other. Unexpectedly, the whole bus was like a ballet dancer losing her balance. At that moment, I had some goosebumps on my arms and I shuddered like I was in a frozen piece of ice. After the bus came to a full stop, the bus driver announced on the microphone that there was a flat tire. All at once, there were moaning and angry shouting from different locations on the bus. Luckily, the driver knew how to fix the tire but all of us needed to get off the bus and waited outside in a humid hot sun. After about thirty minute's wait, we finally returned back to the bus and headed to school.

To ease my bore, I was still looking outside the window and viewing scenery. After ten minutes or so, I observed that same street view repeated in my sight. I screamed to myself, “Oh! No! The bus is making U-Turns again and again.” At that second, I also heard the impatient shouting around like “Are we there yet?” or “Why are you keep making U-Turn?” Not long, The bus driver finally embarrassingly answered, “My GPS is broken and I am not aware where I am?” After we heard that response, most of the students were so panic and asked, “What are we going to do now?” When the students on the bus were busy chit-chatting how to find a way out, suddenly, a young student from the very back of the bus exclaimed, “ Wait a second! I know where this is because my grandma lives close by and I know the way to get to school!” With the direction help from that student, we finally safely arrived school without another unexpected accident. However, the school already started two hours ago.

When I reached school, there was still another uncertainty for me because I was anxious to know who my teacher was for this new school year. I was wondering, “If I have a tough teacher, how should I do?” As I trudged to see the classroom assignment, my steps were extremely heavy like a dinosaur foot step. After I stared carefully at the post, I spotted my teacher was the fantastic one in this school. All of a sudden, my steps were like birds dancing in the sky. Swiftly, I trotted into my classroom and recognized that many of my classmates were from my last year's class. Furthermore, my happiness floated up even higher when I noticed that my best friend were in the same class too. Finally, all the unpleasant feelings from the morning incidents were all washed away from my heart.
