Sort on published: 2018-09-19

Uppsala University is a comprehensive research-intensive university with a strong international standing. Our mission is to pursue top-quality research and education and to interact constructively with society. Our most important assets are all the individuals whose curiosity and dedication make Uppsala University one of Sweden’s most exciting workplaces. Uppsala University has 42,000 students, 7,000 employees and a turnover of SEK 6.7 billion.

Research group:

In the EMBLA research group, led by Dr. Maria Tenje, we develop novel approaches in microfabrication and integrate our systems with microfluidics to develop new experimental platforms for applications within the life sciences. EMBLA is part of the Division of Microsystems Technology (MST), Department of Engineering Sciences and is located at the Ångström Laboratory. As of late 2016, we are also running a pilot facility at Science for Life Laboratory called Customized Microfluidics with the mission to support Swedish researchers from the life sciences with design and fabrication of microfluidic systems. The research engineered employed in the pilot facility will be on parental leave during nine months in 2019 and we are looking for a person to take on these responsibilities during this time period.

More information on the research group's profile is available in the website:

Duties: Typical tasks are to help with design recommendations, prepare CAD drawing of masks, fabrication of microfluidic systems in PDMS, glass and silicon, verifying the functionality of the final system and knowledge transfer to the users. Development and optimization of different fabrication protocols are also included, as well as installation and maintenance of some of our larger equipment. Some involvement in our project based teaching at the division may also be included.

The projects and work load is directly determined by the needs of our users and it is therefore important that you are flexible by nature, able to work with many different projects in parallel and with short deadlines, if needed.

Qualifications: The candidate must have a PhD degree or equivalent in engineering physics, applied physics, materials science or similar disciplines.

The applicant should have a strong background in microfabrication, with particular expertise in UV lithography of both positive and negative resists, wet and dry etching of both silicon and glass as well as casting and bonding of PDMS.

Since this position is service oriented to a large degree, it is very important that you able to take responsibility for and manage larger projects and that you feel comfortable in the role of a facilitator and are not solely motivated by our own scientific success.

We also put great emphasis on your personal characteristics and you must be self-motivated, have the ability to lead and manage projects and to collaborate with other researchers. It is important that you are pedagogical, organised and that you can work efficiently both on your own and in groups.

Additionally meriting:

Experience in e-beam lithography as well as experience with various characterisation techniques, such as SEM, AFM and microscopy.

How to apply:

Your application should include the following:
◾A letter describing yourself and why you are a suitable candidate for this position
◾CV (max. 2 pages)
◾List of publications
◾A copy of your PhD diploma
