LITERACY
This week in Literacy we will be beginning a series of lessons on the ‘mysteries’ genre. This is a wonderful topic full of specialist language, plot devises and interesting literacy techniques. The children will have the opportunity to do a lot of drama and role play to help them understand the complex plot mechanics that make up this much loved genre.

MATHS
This week in maths we will be beginning a unit of work on line graphs and pie charts. The children will be able to apply what they have learnt about fractions to help them understand how to interpret the data on a pie chart. They will also look at the mathematical language needed to explain their findings and justify their reasoning.

THEMED LEARNING
This term our new Themed Learning topic is water. This will be a unit that will involve a great deal of practical scientific investigation and the study of some challenging geographical case studies. In the next few weeks we will be looking at the issue of water scarcity across the globe and how communities overcome these challenges. We will also be beginning some scientific investigations into the properties of water. Other students will be using their art skills with batik to make a beautiful cushion.

COMPUTER PROGRAMMING AND DIGITAL LITERACY
This week the children will use a new touch typing program and will continue to learn the coding language ‘Python’.

PSHCE
In PSHCE this week we will focus further on fostering new relationships, creating rules and expectations for the group and how to work together successfully. We will reflect on what we achieved last term and discuss new personal targets for the term ahead. We will also welcome some new children to Year 6 and will discuss how we can be helpful in settling them into their new school.
