Camp Taiwan第一天

2013年08月05日
Dear Parents,

Hot weather and clear skies greeted campers to begin session six today. The buses rolled into camp right on time and campers got off the buses and met their counselors. Counselors led the campers to their tents and rooms and started the process of unpacking. Once unpacked, it was time to play some ice breakers and warm up games to get to know their new tent mates. Counselors then led the campers on a tour of camp and explained all of the Camp Taiwan safety rules.

Once everyone had finished the tour, campers and counselors headed to the dining room for lunch. We sang a meal song and had a filling lunch before dismissing everyone to their tents for rest time. After rest time is when the real action started. Youth campers began their rotation through the core activities while mini campers and teen campers followed their own schedule. First, this is how the youth campers spent their afternoon.

Pink Team: Archery
Blue Team: Rock Climbing
Brown Team: Ecology
Light Blue Team: Crafts
Orange Team: Cooperative Games
Red Team: Giant Swing
Yellow Team: River Tracing

After the first round of core activities, the youth campers all came together in the spider web to begin their first Taiwanji Camp-wide game — Watering Hole. They had to find other animals of the same species and make their way to the watering hole without encountering hunters along the way.

Teen campers spent their afternoon playing ultimate Frisbee and rock climbing. Both are pretty physically challenging activities. I am sure they will sleep well tonight. The mini campers rotated through ecology and arts and crafts. They will take their craft home when they return later this week.

Right now all the campers are finishing up dinner before starting their journals. Afterwards it will be time for their area campfires. There is still lots more to do tonight before they head to bed and tomorrow we have another day of fun planned for them.

The pictures will be uploaded a little later tonight. Check back at around 9 or 9:30 for today’s photos.

Good night from Camp Taiwan,
Mike

Please note, we try to get as many pictures on the blog as we can. Our counselors work very hard to make sure campers are safe and having fun. They take lots of photos as well, but that is not their primary responsibility, of course. At the end of the camp we will pass on all of our photos and videos.
