Dear Parents, We are starting to get used to the lovely weather we’ve had at camp this summer. Today was no different. And thanks to party night last night, campers let counselors sleep in until the morning bell at 7 a.m. as they were all pretty knackered from the night before. Friday is the penultimate day in the camp week so we try to pack as much as we can into it. Mini campers spent the morning on arts and crafts and ecology. It is great to see the small kids out hunting for insects with their nets and ecology boxes. After lunch, mini campers had a chance to finish their rotation through sports and pond play. In pond play they splash around and get their counselors pretty soaked. Youth campers finished their signup free choice activities this morning. Many have now earned their rock climbing and archery level badges. After lunch is when we offer our out-of-the-ordinary name tag free choice activities. Kids love the chance to play board games with counselors and learn cool jump roping routines. It was then time for tent time where campers and counselors practiced for tonight’s closing campfire talent show. It should be a beautiful night for it under the stars. Teen campers had a very active day as well. They played soccer, climbed the giant ladder, went on the zip line and even found time to do some crafts and play kick ball. They will join our campfire tonight as well and I always look forward to the teen camp performance. Campers are currently showering and getting ready for dinner. After dinner and journals we will hold our closing campfire ceremony. It is hard to believe campers will be heading home tomorrow. Session six has passed by too quickly. The pictures will be uploaded a little later tonight. Check back at around 9 or 9:30 for today’s photos. Good night from Camp Taiwan, Mike Please note, we try to get as many pictures on the blog as we can. Our counselors work very hard to make sure campers are safe and having fun. They take lots of photos as well, but that is not their primary responsibility, of course. At the end of the camp we will pass on all of our photos and videos.

Dear Parents, Beautiful blue skies greeted our new mini campers today as session six rolled on. We had new a influx of green and purple campers who arrived around 9 a.m. They checked into their rooms and got unpacked before playing some ice breaking warmup games with their counselors. While the minis were getting acclimated to their new environs, the youth and teen campers were already started on another action-packed day at camp. With the core activities finished, campers began their sign up free choice activities this morning. We had one group of youth campers who went ocean kayaking the first two activity periods, and it was a great day for it. Counselors made sure everyone had plenty of water and sunscreen before heading out. Other campers made their way through their choice of activities from archery, climbing, crafts, basketball, bug hunting, zip line and more. In the afternoon we offered even more activities from which they could choose: soccer, Frisbee golf, jump roping, shrimping and bug art. It was then time for them to come together for another Taiwanji camp-wide game. Teen campers spent their morning on a two-activity rotation of giant swing and archery. These are two of the most well-liked activities at camp. After lunch all of the teens headed to the beach for ocean kayaking. Campers are just now finishing up their dinner and will soon be writing in their journals. Once their journals are complete, it will be party time as the dancing, games, and shaved ice will be underway. This is always a very tiring day and I know campers (and counselors) will appreciate a good night’s sleep tonight. The pictures will be uploaded a little later tonight. Check back at around 9 or 9:30 for today’s photos. Good night from Camp Taiwan, Mike Please note, we try to get as many pictures on the blog as we can. Dear Parents, We had another fine day here at Camp Taiwan, though it was sad to say goodbye to the 6a mini campers. The day, as always, started off with a big breakfast. Today we had pancakes, bacon, cereal and fruit. Campers and counselors filled up before heading out to their morning activities. Youth campers used the morning to finish their core activity rotation while teens hit the big river and mini campers completed the last of their activities. Here is how the morning was organized: Brown Team: Archery and Climbing Light Blue Team: Climbing and Ecology Orange Team: Ecology and Crafts Red Team: Crafts and Cooperative Games Yellow Team: Cooperative Games and Giant Swing Pink Team: Giant Swing and River Tracing Blue Team: River Tracing and Archery The mini campers finished their rotation of rock climbing and sports. They played lots of fun new games while at camp this week. Our teen campers went into the national park for big river tracing this morning. They made their own lunches this morning and then packed into the river. They climbed water falls, swam and generally had a great time in the water on a hot day. Tonight everyone gets a bit of a rest with our movie night. Tomorrow we get to welcome a whole new group of mini campers. The pictures will be uploaded a little later tonight. Check back at around 9 or 9:30 for today’s photos. Good night from Camp Taiwan, Mike Please note, we try to get as many pictures on the blog as we can. Dear Parents, It was a cloudy hot day at Camp Taiwan today as campers had an excitement-filled day of activities. Tuesdays are the day where youth campers spend every period on their core activity rotation. Mini campers and teens were very busy today as well. We got everyone started with a big breakfast so they could have enough energy throughout the day. Counselors also made sure their campers had enough sunscreen on, hats and full water bottles. Once everyone was ready, we started our day. This is how the teams rotated through the activities: Yellow Team: Archery, Climbing, Ecology, Crafts Pink Team: Climbing, Ecology, Crafts, Cooperative Games Blue Team: Ecology, Crafts, Cooperative Games, Giant Swing Brown Team: Crafts, Cooperative Games, Giant Swing, River Tracing Light Blue Team: Cooperative Games, Giant Swing, River Tracing, Archery Orange Team: Giant Swing, River Tracing, Archery, Climbing Red Team: River Tracing, Archery, Climbing, Ecology The mini campers this morning did rock climbing and spent some playing sports. They also had a rotation of inside games in our dining room. In the afternoon it was time for archery and pond play as they got a chance to soak their counselors a little bit. The teens spent their morning rotating through farming in our organic farm and learning how to do some camp cooking. In the afternoon it was more outdoor living as the teens learned to make fires and shelter out in the wild (by their tents). Right now all the campers are playing wide games around camp. After it will be time to get ready for bed as we have another big day in store for them tomorrow. The pictures will be uploaded a little later tonight. Check back at around 9 or 9:30 for today’s photos. Good night from Camp Taiwan, Mike Please note, we try to get as many pictures on the blog as we can. Dear Parents, Hot weather and clear skies greeted campers to begin session six today. The buses rolled into camp right on time and campers got off the buses and met their counselors. Counselors led the campers to their tents and rooms and started the process of unpacking. Once unpacked, it was time to play some ice breakers and warm up games to get to know their new tent mates. Counselors then led the campers on a tour of camp and explained all of the Camp Taiwan safety rules. Once everyone had finished the tour, campers and counselors headed to the dining room for lunch. We sang a meal song and had a filling lunch before dismissing everyone to their tents for rest time. After rest time is when the real action started. Youth campers began their rotation through the core activities while mini campers and teen campers followed their own schedule. First, this is how the youth campers spent their afternoon. Pink Team: Archery Blue Team: Rock Climbing Brown Team: Ecology Light Blue Team: Crafts Orange Team: Cooperative Games Red Team: Giant Swing Yellow Team: River Tracing After the first round of core activities, the youth campers all came together in the spider web to begin their first Taiwanji Camp-wide game — Watering Hole. They had to find other animals of the same species and make their way to the watering hole without encountering hunters along the way. Teen campers spent their afternoon playing ultimate Frisbee and rock climbing. Both are pretty physically challenging activities. I am sure they will sleep well tonight. The mini campers rotated through ecology and arts and crafts. They will take their craft home when they return later this week. Right now all the campers are finishing up dinner before starting their journals. Afterwards it will be time for their area campfires. There is still lots more to do tonight before they head to bed and tomorrow we have another day of fun planned for them. The pictures will be uploaded a little later tonight. Check back at around 9 or 9:30 for today’s photos. Good night from Camp Taiwan, Mike Please note, we try to get as many pictures on the blog as we can.
