Science-5 Specialised Cells
Human Cells
The Sperm Cell:
The Sperm Cell is designed to fertilise eggs. It's very very small and has a tail. It looks a bit like a tadpole. Also, it has a nucleus which contains chromosomes, which carry the genetic information about the father.
The Ovum(egg)Cell:
The Ovum Cell is designed to be fertilised by the sperm cell. It is large and bulky because it is not designed to be active. It just sits and waits for the sperm cell to come. It also, like the sperm cell, contains chromosomes, which carry the genetic information about the mother.
Ciliated Cells:
Ciliated Cells are designed to stop lung damage. They line all your air passages. They have tiny hairs that filter the air as it passes through.
Plant Cells
Root Hair Cells:
Root Hair Cells are designed to absorb minerals and water. It has a long, thin, cell wall so it makes it easier for minerals and water to pass through to the root itself.
Palisade Cells:
Palisade Cells are designed for photosynthesis. They are on the top side of a leaf, ideal for absorption of light, needed for photosynthesis.
