Hopefully you were able to take the opportunity to recycle some school clothing for your child and we warmly appreciate your support. We would like to remind you that we welcome your on-going support to donate clothes that could possibly be sold at the next event – please bring any uniform items to be sold into the Parents Hub in Primary and you will receive further information about location and times closer to the event. Many thanks for your support! • Thank you so much to all the parents that were able to attend the Year 4 Showcase Day. It was lovely to see the children talking so confidently and enthusiastically about their work. • Library Loans: We wish to encourage reading amongst all our children, so your child will be allowed to take books home over the Christmas break. Please do remember to return them the first week of term. Reminders for lost and overdue books will be sent as usual at the end of the first week of term. Literacy This week we will become advertising executives. The children will begin to create an advertising campaign to promote the cars they have been designing during their Themed Learning lessons. They will use cameras and video editing software to create a commercial, as well as creating a magazine advert. Each child will call upon the persuasive techniques that they learnt last week and include other advertising techniques, such as a slogan and a jingle, to make their adverts as effective as possible. Maths In Maths this week the children will be learning how to carry out multiplication questions using a formal method. The week will begin with a focus on the times tables and then move on to ensuring that each child grasps the importance of place value when multiplying numbers by 100. The main outcome for the week will be that children understand how to multiply 2 and 3 digit numbers using a formal written layout. Themed Learning ‘Inventions that changed the World’ This week our Themed Learning topic will run in conjunction with our Literacy work. The children will be using watercolours to paint their own car designs. They will thenbegin to use video editing software and scanning techniques to transfer their designs into an advert.
